Bulls engaged in Tyrus Thomas talks
December 3, 2009 11:45 PM 35 Comments
By K.C. Johnson
The Bulls have held discussions about trading Tyrus Thomas to the Knicks, according to a league source.
Yahoo! Sports first reported the talks, which, for now, have centered upon Thomas and the expiring contract of Jerome James for the $10 million expiring contract of Al Harrington. The Knicks are trying to keep Harrington and make the deal work with other players, the league source said.
The Bulls long have admired Harrington's game. And trading Thomas would preclude the Bulls from making the decision of whether or not to place an approximately $13 million salary cap hold on his services at a time when they might be trying to optimize salary cap space for the 2010 free agent class.
Furthermore, the emergence of rookie Taj Gibson as at least a viable rotation player has allowed the Bulls to consider shopping Thomas, the league source said.
Thomas is currently recovering from a fractured radius in his left forearm. He is scheduled to return in the next two weeks.

Our 2 Keepers Rose and Noah, Bulls exercise option for 10-11 season
Bulls exercise options on Rose and Noah
Both players will be under contract with the Bulls for the 2010-11 season
Rose, Noah and the Bulls will open the regular season at home on Thursday when they take on the San Antonio Spurs. This year, all Bulls home games will tip off at 7:00 p.m. (Gary Dineen/NBAE/Getty Images)
October 26, 2009 — The Chicago Bulls announced today the team has picked up the options for the 2010-11 season for guard Derrick Rose and forward/center Joakim Noah. By exercising the respective player options, both players will be under contract with the Bulls for the 2010-11 season.
Rose appeared in 81 games (80 starts) last year en route to being selected the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year. On the season, he averaged 16.8 ppg, a team-high 6.3 apg and 3.9 rpg in 37.0 mpg. The Chicago native shot .475 from the field and .788 from the free throw line. He finished the 2008-09 campaign in the top three in several categories all-time among Bulls rookies, including total points (third with 1,361), scoring average (third) and assists (third with 512). Rose was the first selection in NBA Draft 2008.
In two seasons with Chicago, Noah (6-11, 232) has appeared in 154 games (86 starts) and averaged 6.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.2 apg and 1.13 bpg in 22.5 mpg; he has shot .520 from the field and .684 from the line. The Bulls selected Noah in the first round (ninth overall) in NBA Draft 2007.

Chris Richard release by the Bulls
Richard, a teammate of center Joakim Noah at Florida, played in six games this preseason and averaged 3.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in 19.7 minutes.
The loss of Richard means the Bulls will have no more than 12 healthy players at the start of the season because of injuries to Aaron Gray (lower leg stress fracture) and Jerome James (recovering from Achilles surgery).
That number could be reduced to 11 if guard Derrick Byars doesn't make it to the opening-day roster.

Bulls Trip to London Update(Also Congrats to John Salmons)Read the story and find out the great news!!!!
K.C. Johnson
LONDON -- Derrick Rose celebrated his 21st birthday Sunday, but he also sat out Bulls practice after hurting his right ankle and Achilles in Friday's game in Indiana. Rose said he isn't sure whether he'd play Tuesday against Utah at this city's O2 Arena.
"The pain is back on my heel," Rose said. "I can't even run on it. I can walk on it, but I can't run. I really want to play so I'm just going to get treatment and hope for the best."
The Bulls also are without John Salmons, who is back in the U.S. because his wife is close to giving birth to their second child.
The Bulls have finished their 90-minute practice, which was basically a glorified shootaround or walkthrough.

Bulls 1st Preseason Game Win104-95 vs@ Pacers
By CLIFF BRUNT, AP Sports Writer
Posted Oct 2 2009 9:55PM
INDIANAPOLIS(AP) Rookie Taj Gibson had 19 points and nine rebounds to help the Chicago Bulls beat the Indiana Pacers 104-95 on Friday night in the second preseason game for the NBA's replacement officials.
It was an uneventful night for officials Kevin Scott, Karl Lane and William Mensah, though Pacers fans briefly booed them for reviewing whether the Bulls had committed a shot-clock violation with 3.7 seconds left and the game already decided. The Bulls were called for the violation.
The league has hired replacements during its lockout with the referees union, and so far, there hasn't been much trouble. Indiana was called for 28 fouls to Chicago's 21. The only technical foul was a 3-second call against the Pacers. The game was run smoothly and lasted just 2 hours, 20 minutes.
The officials didn't draw attention from Gibson's performance. Chicago coach Vinny Del Negro liked what he saw from the first-round pick out of Southern California.
"Taj is like the Energizer Bunny, just keeps on coming at ya,'' Del Negro said. "He shoots it better than you think, he's picking and popping, he's long. Just a great effort for a first game for a rookie. It's a good sign for him.''
Gibson, the Pac-10 defensive player of the year last season, said he wants to prove that he's a solid all-around player with a team mentality.
"I'm just an athletic, extremely high-energy guy,'' Gibson said. "If I have to go out and get a couple rebounds, take a charge, I'm willing to do anything to help the team win. That's my whole mind-frame right now.''
Rose added 17 points, and Luol Deng and John Salmons had 15 each for the Bulls. Chicago's Tyrus Thomas left the game in the third quarter because of a concussion.
Danny Granger led the Pacers with 27 points in 26 minutes. Luther Head scored 14 points, Brandon Rush scored all 13 of his points in the second half and Solomon Jones added 11 for Indiana.
Head said the Pacers are trying to find a rhythm with so many injuries and new players.
"There's definitely a lot of work to do,'' he said. "The first half, we played some pretty good defense, and I think that will carry over for us.''
Indiana guard Mike Dunleavy sat out because he's still recovering from surgery performed on his right knee in March. Pacers forward Troy Murphy rested a sprained left ankle, and rookie forward Tyler Hansbrough sat out with a sore right shin.
Indiana held Chicago to 28 percent shooting in the first half, but the Bulls made 19 free throws to stay close. Granger scored 15 points to help Indiana take a 43-41 lead at the break.
Chicago outscored Indiana 34-19 in the third quarter to take a 75-62 lead into the final period.
"I thought we needed to pick up our energy a little bit and we did,'' Del Negro said. "We moved the ball a little bit better, our assists were much better in the second half. I just thought our energy picked up a little bit.''
Indiana quickly rallied, and a powerful right handed dunk by Josh McRoberts cut Chicago's lead to two at 80-78.
Chicago quickly regained control. Lindsey Hunter banked in a 2-pointer from the top of the key as the shot clock expired to put the Bulls up 100-87.
NOTES: Indiana C Jeff Foster wore a mask because he took a shot in the nose from McRoberts in a recent practice. ... Chicago rookie James Johnson fouled out in 18 minutes.

Bulls Training Camp Update
Bulls cancel evening practice
By
John Jackson September 30, 2009 2:15 PM
Wednesday was supposed to be the last day of two-a-days for the Bulls, but coach Vinny Del Negro decided to cancel the evening session. Instead, the team had a longer morning practice.
"I thought the guys gave great effort for four straight days with double sessions," Del Negro said. "I just thought we'd have one long practice today, and we got a lot out of it."
Except for backup center Aaron Gray, who went down Tuesday with a stress fracture in his lower left leg, the Bulls made it through the four days of double sessions healthy.
"I feel bad for Aaron; he's had a productive summer," Del Negro said. "We hate to lose him and it would have been a great time for him to get some experience under his belt in the exhibition season. But you can't control the injuries and now he just has to condition himself and try to stay in the best shape he can."
Gray is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks, so he's likely to miss the first month of the regular season.

Nate close to a 1yr deal with knicks
A source with knowledge of the situation Wednesday told Newsday that parameters of an agreement are in place for a one-year deal for an undisclosed amount higher than his qualifying offer of $2.9 million.
The contract has not yet been signed, according to a team spokesman, so there was no official announcement. But it is believed an agreement, which includes performance bonuses, will be officially finalized as early as Thursday.

Harpring Becomes Valuable Trade Chip? Check out this
The Jazz should be able to recover the majority of Harpring's salary from insurance if he misses at least half the season.
By keeping him on the roster, Harpring gives the Jazz a 13th player under contract as the NBA requires. He also could prove an attractive trade chip with an expiring contract.

NBA NEWS & NOTES
The Bobcats had been discussing a long-term deal with Felton, but neither side was eager to budge from their respective positions.
“Raymond is just ready to put the focus back on basketball,” Felton’s agent, Kevin Bradbury, said. “He doesn’t want any of this to affect the team at the start of training camp. So, we’ll look forward to him having a great season, the Bobcats having a great season and we will talk more with the organization when it is appropriate.”
Courtesy of:Via SportingNews
The Wolves on Tuesday waived veteran guard Chucky Atkins, agreeing to pay him $760,000 for a $3.48 million contract that was mostly non-guaranteed.
Mark Blount and his $7.96 million expiring contract are expected to be waived in the next week.

The Heat have extended the contract of head coach Erik Spoelstra.
The move comes in the wake of news that all the team's employees in basketball operations, including president Pat Riley, accepted voluntary pay cuts earlier this year.
Spoelstra, who reportedly was given a three-year contract when he was named head coach in April 2008, did not disclose terms of the extension, but it is believed to be for one year.

Hey Fans,Veiwers I hope you enjoy my recruitment letter to DWADE; Now I`m back with little NBA News
After completing a buyout with the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, guard Sasha Pavlovic(notes) has agreed in principle on a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Pavlovic, 25, was traded to the Suns with Ben Wallace(notes) in the Shaquille O’Neal(notes) trade in June. He played five seasons with the Cavaliers before the deal. With proceeds from the Suns buyout, Pavlovic will make $2.75 million this season.
Pavlovic’s role with the Cavaliers diminished last season. The Timberwolves’ new coach, Kurt Rambis, was a big proponent of signing Pavlovic, a source said.
The New York Knicks also expressed interest in signing Pavlovic.

NBA NEWS &NOTES(2)
- Carlos Arroyo in negotiations with clippers and hawks(we have to see on this one, Because we heard rumors If i`m correct from this same Paper that the Bulls had signed him to a 1year deal; which was just something to gas up some teams and draw interest. Like I saided before im a fan of Carlos and i think he is a good player, i just think right now the interest is at a minimal because of what he provides. If I was a team and Arroyo was available for a Vet minimal or Mid level for 1year i`ll go after him; He`s a very good player which teams should at least take a glance.(I`m done, but you all can check my achives for my thoughts on Arroyo.)
-The San Antonio Spurs have signed guard Curtis Jerrells to a make-good contract with a partial guarantee, one source told HoopsHype.com. The signing is expected to be announced later this week.
Jerrells, a 6-foot-1 point guard, starred four years at Baylor and was named to the All-Big 12 in 2009.

MY RECRUITMENT LETTER TO DWAYNE WADE(FROM OF COARSE A BULLS FAN)
"If I disclose that kind of information, the articles this season aren't as exciting anymore," Wade told the Daily Herald. "Speculation is not the same. You guys ain't going to have nothing to talk about me."
Wade was then asked what would keep him in Miami.
"Well, first of all I love the organization," he added.
"I love what it stands for, from the owner Mickey Arison on down. It's a first class organization. We've had some good times in Miami. I love the weather. It's become home for me for the past six years. Hey, it's not my fault Miami drafted me at No. 5 (in 2003) and Chicago did not move up (from No. 7)."
